...POTENTIALLY LIFE-THREATENING HEAT AND HUMIDITY EXPECTED ACROSS
EASTERN KANSAS AND WESTERN INTO CENTRAL MISSOURI THROUGH SATURDAY...

.VERY HOT TEMPERATURES AND INCREASING HUMIDITY LEVELS WILL SURGE
BACK INTO EASTERN KANSAS AS WELL AS ADJACENT WESTERN AND CENTRAL
MISSOURI FOR THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS. SOUTHWESTERLY WINDS WILL HELP
TRANSPORT HOT AND MOIST AIR INTO THE REGION BEGINNING TODAY.
AFTERNOON HEAT INDICIES WILL REACH 105 TO 115 DEGREES ON WEDNESDAY
AND 105 TO 110 DEGREES ON THURSDAY OVER THE AFFECTED AREAS. 100 TO
105 DEGREES READINGS CAN BE EXPECTED AGAIN ON FRIDAY AND SATURDAY.

...EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY TO 7 PM CDT
SATURDAY...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN KANSAS CITY/PLEASANT HILL HAS
ISSUED AN EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM NOON
TODAY TO 7 PM CDT SATURDAY. THE HEAT ADVISORY IS NO LONGER IN
EFFECT.

* LOCATION: PARTS NORTHWEST INTO CENTRAL MISSOURI AND EASTERN KANSAS.

* TEMPERATURE: READINGS FROM THE UPPER 90S TO LOWER 100S CAN BE
  EXPECTED THROUGH SATURDAY. THESE HOT TEMPERATURES WHEN COUPLED WITH
  THE HIGH HUMIDITY LEVELS WILL RESULT IN HEAT INDICES OF 100 TO 105
  DEGREES ACROSS PORTIONS OF CENTRAL MISSOURI AND AS HIGH AS 105 TO
  115 DEGREES ACROSS NORTHWEST MISSOURI INTO NORTHEAST KANSAS
  WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY. MOST AREAS WILL SEE HEAT INDICIES OF 100 TO 105 ON
  FRIDAY AND SATURDAY.

* IMPACTS: THESE PROLONGED HOT AND HUMID CONDITIONS WILL LEAD TO
  AN INCREASED RISK OF HEAT RELATED STRESS AND ILLNESSES
  INCLUDING HEAT EXHAUSTION AND HEAT STROKE. THESE CONDITIONS
  ARE ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS TO THOSE WORKING OUTSIDE OR PLAYING
  OUTDOORS AS WELL AS FOR THE YOUNG AND ELDERLY.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

AN EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING MEANS THAT A PROLONGED PERIOD OF
DANGEROUSLY HOT TEMPERATURES WILL OCCUR. THE COMBINATION OF HOT
TEMPERATURES AND HIGH HUMIDITY WILL CREATE A DANGEROUS SITUATION
IN WHICH HEAT ILLNESSES ARE LIKELY AND CAN BE LIFE THREATENING.
DRINK PLENTY OF WATER...STAY IN AN AIR-CONDITIONED ROOM...STAY
OUT OF THE SUN...AND CHECK UP ON NEIGHBORS...THE ELDERLY...AND
PETS.

TAKE EXTRA PRECAUTIONS IF YOU WORK OR SPEND TIME OUTSIDE. WHEN
POSSIBLE...RESCHEDULE STRENUOUS ACTIVITIES TO EARLY MORNING OR
EVENING.  KNOW THE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF HEAT EXHAUSTION AND HEAT
STROKE.  WEAR LIGHT WEIGHT AND LOOSE FITTING CLOTHING WHEN
POSSIBLE AND DRINK PLENTY OF WATER.

TO REDUCE RISK DURING OUTDOOR WORK THE OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND
HEALTH ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDS SCHEDULING FREQUENT REST BREAKS
IN SHADED OR AIR CONDITIONED ENVIRONMENTS. ANYONE OVERCOME BY
HEAT SHOULD BE MOVED TO A COOL AND SHADED LOCATION.  HEAT STROKE
